Hyderabad : first city to have 1GBPS Internet Plan

Hyderabad - first city to have 1GBPS Internet Plan

Proving a boost to the communication and entertainment services, the city of pearls (Hyderabad) gets a 1GBPS internet plan. Bangalore-based company ACT Fibernet launched the service and had become the hot topic of discussion. The project took about one and a half years until it became a reality. The investment into it was over Rs.100 Crore. The launch has made Hyderabad as India’s first Giga-city.
Grand inauguration of the service was done by Mr. Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, Telangana state honorable cabinet minister. “It is my vision to connect our people to the high-speed internet, and I am sure this product will further help fulfill my vision of making Telangana a tech and digitally advanced hub,” Mr.Rao said. Government institutions and secretariat would also be moving towards shifting to the plan.

About the 1GBPS Internet plan:

The internet plan would be available on a monthly basis. The company will be charging an amount of Rs.5,999 per month, and the cap limit would be 1TB (Terra Byte). This step will play a pivotal role and would be very beneficial for startups along with internet companies. With the offered speeds, users of the service will be able to download large data files in seconds.
ACT Fibernet CEO Bala Malladi said, “The city of Hyderabad is exactly suitable for our first rollout (of the 1Gbps service) as it has some of the best technology brands, educational institutions, and a vibrant economy. We are confident this product will transform the way the internet is now being consumed and will also fast track the Telangana government’s target to connect all its 23 million residents to the web by 2018.”

Current Statistics about Internet usage:

At the start of the year 2016, India ranked at the 114th position all over the world in the Average Internet Broadband Speed list. According to the Akamai report, our country climbed its position to the 105th place. There was a shift from an average speed of 3.5 MBPS (Megabits per second) to 4.1 MBPS. In the top ten list of the internet speed, South Korea ranks at the top with an average internet speed of about 27 MBPS. On the second position comes Hong Kong at 20 MBPS while Finland is ranked 10th. Currently, our country has over 18 million unique IPv4 addresses.

Further Plans of the Company:

The CEO of ACT Fibernet said that the firm has plans to launch the service in ten other cities in the near future. It further has plans to diversify its network in our country. The company plans to invest Rs.1200 crore over the next two financial years for this.
ACT would be relying on its investors for strengthening its network. The major investors are True North ( earlier know as India Value Fund Advisors) and TA Associates. Reports show that ACT Internet is the largest internet service provider (ISP) in the twin cities. Hyderabad alone has five lakh subscribers and a market share of over 70%.
