Google Wi-Fi smart router- A new Home Wi-Fi system

Google Wi-Fi smart router- A new Home Wi-Fi system

Google launched another home Product Google Wi-Fi smart router with a set of three units priced $299. Although one set is enough for small houses, but for large square feet areas we required two or three Google Wi-Fi units to cover the complete house.
There is tough competition between Google Wi-Fi device and Netgear Orbi smart router, but both has its advantages and disadvantages such as Netgear uses Tri-band network systems and Google using the Latest Wi-Fi mesh bandwidth technology.

Highlights of Google Wi-Fi smart router

Design

Most of the Wi-Fi routers come with the regular design like a Wi-Fi hub and two attached router antennas for spreading Wi-Fi wireless signals. But Google made some great changes in new Google Wi-Fi device unit, and it just looks like a tiny cylinder-shaped design with a simple white LED lights on its center.

It has three ports on the bottom of the device, two Ethernet connectivity ports and one included USB Type-c port for charging the device. This means Google Wi-Fi ports can be functioned as a router of the system and it can be used as wired broadband network connectivity function using the included Ethernet port.

How to setup

Setting up the Google Wi-Fi router is so easy with free Android and iOS apps. The user should configure the device with the app by scanning the QR code on the Wi-Fi device which will connect your app with the device for further setup configurations.
After scanning the QR code, the app will asks you to name the network and secure password. Then pair up the additional Wi-Fi routers and configure them in the given app for reference. Pairing up additional devices and starting the broadcasting the Wi-Fi network connectivities only takes seconds.

However, the Google Wi-Fi app offers plenty of features such as constant monitoring the network, points and devices connected to it. You can also give priorities for each device bandwidth, which makes it easy for controlling the smart home device and you even can pause the internet access to specific devices in family parental control settings.

Performance

The performance of Google Wi-Fi router is quite better than the Netgear Orbi device, and Google Wi-Fi supports up to 100Mbps network speeds. We can able to stream 4K videos through the YouTube and Netflix without any lags.
For gamers, while playing online streaming multiplayer games, you can divert the complete network traffic to selected devices by cutting off other connected devices. So there will be no lags in streaming while playing multiplayer games.
Another best feature in Google Wi-Fi router is that it automatically repairs itself and takes the total load when one or more router points accidentally unplugged or lose power.
Coming to Google Wi-Fi performance, it operates with 2.4GHz and 5GHz network bands over the 802.11 mesh protocol system but the Netgear Orbi router which operates with 5GHz tri-band networks.

Pros
  • Simple Setup
  • Cheap price
  • Excellent design quality.
Cons
  • It has limited hardware control
  • Lower AC ratings are provided.
