GHMC Hyderabad to setup 3000 Wi-Fi

On Tuesday Telangana government launched a new program in the twin cities called GHMC Hyderabad City Wi-Fi project in which government is going to install more than 1000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the city. However, Telangana government has already installed some Wi-Fi hotspots at frequently visited tourism places in Hyderabad with uploading & downloading limits.

The aspiring project from GHMC Hyderabad will also cover more than 3000 hotspot locations across the Hyderabad city by the end of the year. Although the Telangana government started a pilot version of Hyderabad city Wi-Fi project in which ISP providers delivers 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi services a 100 public locations across the city. By looking at the Hyderabad Wi-Fi project results, Telangana government is decided to setup more Wi-Fi hotspots in other popular public locations.

On June 2015, Telangana government launched ‘Digital Telangana’ campaign under which the GHMC decided to provide free Wi-Fi hotspots across the city. Over the last two years, usage of free Wi-Fi services has drastically increased so with the tremendous success of the Hyderabad city Wi-Fi pilot project Telangana government decided to implement Wi-Fi hotspots more than 3000 locations across the Hyderabad.

Addressing the gathering on occasion, Mayor of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Shri Bonthu RammohanShri Rammohan said, “Being the newest state of the India, Telangana strives to be the best state in all perspectives. Hyderabad has been an inspiration for other cities in IT sector, industry and living standards, and this city will continue to utilize new technologies to uplift the lifestyle of each resident. Hy-Fi will set another example making Hyderabad a truly connected city even on the digital front.”

The Telangana government has decided to Setup the Hyderabad City Wi-Fi project in two stages which doesn’t disturb the public and transportation. In first stage/phase over the 1000 Wi-Fi hotspots will be installed which delivers a 5-10Mbps bandwidth and offers 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi services. After successful completion of Phase-1, the Phase-2 will be started in which more than 2000 hotspots will be installed across the city.

Shri Rajan S. Mathews, Director General at COAI, said “With the successful completion of the Hy-Fi project, Hyderabad and Telangana will rise as an example for rest of the states. It is a noble moment for the Telangana state and the telecom industry as well. As partners in this prestigious project, the telecom industry will partner in the timely completion of the project. This will provide high-speed internet access connecting citizen with education, commerce, and opportunities”.
