Facebook introducing Profile Picture guard

Facebook is reportedly rolling out two new features to both web and mobile applications called Profile Picture guard and Profile picture design for Indian users. If you think your Facebook profile picture is stolen by someone or you feel that your profile picture is being miss-used, then it is going to no problem for you anymore because Facebook has to introduce profile picture protection which doesn’t allow someone to save or screenshot your photos.

Profile Picture guard

However some of Facebook users have already updated their protected profile picture option, but in case if you haven’t setup protected profile picture then you should complete it as soon as possible. The all new Facebook features have been officially announced on Wednesday by blog post and they have also mentioned that new Facebook features are specially developed for Indian users.

In India, we’ve understood that people want more security over their profile pictures, and we’ve been working over the past year to understand how we can help. Today, we are guiding new tools that give people in India more control over who can download and share their profile pictures. In addition, we’re examining ways people can more easily add designs to profile pictures, which our research has shown helpful in deterring misuse. Based on what we learn from our experience in India, we hope to expand to other countries soon.

According to the Facebook reports, most of the women users in India are not interested in sharing their original profile pictures because they have a fear that someone is going to misuse their profile pictures. So if you’ve opted for protected profile picture, Facebook will offer following features.

  • People who’re not in your friend list will no longer be able to download your profile pictures, and they can’t share or send your picture to others.
  • People who’re not on your friend’s list won’t have access to tag anyone, including themselves in your profile pictures.
  • Protected profile picture feature will also prevent others from taking screenshot your profile picture.
  • After completion of protected profile picture process, it will display a blue border and image protection field around your picture.

The all new Facebook protected profile picture feature is currently available for android users who’ve updated to the most recent software version, if someone wants to save or take a screenshot of your profile picture then it will pop-up notification like this.
