Charger Drones Will Be Latest Patents for Amazon, USPTO Granted
Amazon has had a history of applying for ideas that come out of nowhere and are far from reality. Despite being a laughing stock many times the company hasn’t given up what it calls ‘creativity’. The company’s R&D team had one such not-so-practical idea back in the year 2014, and USPTO has recently granted a patent on it. That idea would be of Charger Drones that would fly to your car to charge the battery and leave back to their respective bases.
Electric vehicles have been on the boom in the recent years, but there is one glaring problem with the new automobile technology that is they have very limited range. Taking an EV for a long journey is just not possible yet. The presence of these Charger Drones from Amazon could help fight that issue at least to a certain degree.
Amazon hasn’t been vocal after the patent has been granted, but we do have their plan back when they submitted the idea for a patent. Their idea was to have Charger Drones that would identify the car based a special code on the roof, land there and charges the battery of the car. These drones post their duty would go back to bases and recharge for next task at hand. This would help electric vehicles combat the issue of a long journey or a sudden battery drop.
This idea of Charger Drones Amazon sounds fun but is far from reality it is technically not possible yet for a drone to carry enough energy to charge up an electric vehicle’s battery and travel a good distance as well for doing so. The rate at which EV technology is developing soon we won’t need any battery backups for long rides, and then these Charger drones will be worth nothing.
Amazon will probably give up on the idea well before any advancement so, Charger drones will still be a myth.
