ARM Technologies recently launched its next generation advanced ARM Mali G72 GPU chipset with all new upgrades and features. From the name itself, we can say that Mali G72 GPU is a successor to ARM’s previous high-end Mali G71 graphic chipset. The brand new Mali G72 graphic chipset comes with a second generation Bifrost-based GPU for high graphic performance.
ARM Mali G72 GPU chipset highlights
Coming to the straight points, the all new Mali G72 GPU has the capability to improve energy efficiency up to 25%, and it can save up to 20% on performance density. ARM claimed that Mali G72 GPU has a capability to improve 17% of GEMM and another improvement such as new instructions and booster performance in specific conditions.
Mali G72 GPU can add the increased tile buffer memory by supporting up to 16X multisample anti-aliasing at a minimum production cost, and the performance boost has drastically increased to 40% in all new G72 GPU. Unlike ARM’s latest GPU release, Mali G72 GPU has some advanced features in its graphic technology. The design of Mali G72 has also changed, it comes with hundreds of smaller micro-architectural adjustments which make it as a notable improvement of the design.
The brand new Mali G72 GPU is designed to learn complex machine learning with the use of arithmetic optimizations, and it provides up to 25% of high energy efficiency while playing high fidelity mobile gaming. Mali G72 GPU can deliver up to 40% greater performance than the previous ARM’s Bifrost GPU’s.
In the last G71 GPU model, developers have only one choice to target 16-20 cores as the optimized footprint for power efficiency and high performance, but with the increased tile buffer memory, the developer can extend closer to the 32 cores in Mali G72 GPU.
ARM launched its new Cetus display architecture earlier this month, so we can pair up Cetus display and Mali G72 GPU to perform common display tasks. Although Cetus display is not much mandatory for Mali G72 GPU, the combination offers some advanced features and improved performance.
ARM’s Cetus display supports HDR option, and it is capable of 12-bit internal precision which supports a wide range of dynamic standards such as HDR 10, 2K and 4K video quality, Virtual reality and Automotive applications.
