Aipoly is an app that helps visually impaired people see.
Sight plays a significant role in a person’s life. Visually impaired people are now with help from the application called Aipoly. It is a free app for the blind to identify distant objects and 2D images without the aid of someone else. It is an artificial intelligence app that has been developed keeping in mind the blind people.
Artificial Intelligence App – Aipoly for the blind
This is not the first application that is developed to help the visually impaired people. It is the first one to do so without depending on the input from the individual. According to the developers, it works on image recognition technology. The person has to point the device at the product to find out what is in front of him.
This is how the application works
The user takes a photo and then sends the image to the cloud. The cloud identifies the image from the database and then responds back to the user. Machine learning is the hot word that uses pattern detection and prediction to determine the search. The cool thing about the application is that it can identify objects with respect to each other. For example, instead of pointing out a basket and a fruit, Aipoly can put together both of them and give a result saying ‘fruit in the basket.’
Making its way into the CES2017
The co-founders Alberto and Simon started the journey to develop it with a vision to help the blind. The developers namely Marita Cheng and Alberto Rizzoli have put in enough efforts to refine the interface. It was showcased at the CES2017 (Consumer Electronics Show) and won the Innovation Award for the year 2017.
Nothing is perfect, and the same is with the case of Aipoly. Users of the app have reported difficulty in identifying facial expressions and the gender of the person. The developers though agree with this point; the best part is that the machine learning algorithm keeps learning and gets better with usage.
