3Bn Yahoo Accounts Were Breached; Not 1Bn, Says Further Investigation

3Bn Yahoo Accounts Were Breached

Yahoo’s security breach in 2013 was announced last year where they reported information stolen from about 1 billion of Yahoo accounts. Further investigation into the case has reviled a much saddening truth about the situation; about 3 billion accounts which cover all the accounts from the website were a victim to this breach.

What was the information stolen?

The information stolen from the 3 billion Yahoo accounts might be covering everything from names, email addresses, dates of birth to telephone numbers and passwords. The severity of the breach was so bad that all passwords encrypted or not, were stolen from the hackers. The security questions and answers have fallen little to the hackers in accordance of Yahoo account security.

Details on investigation

No information was disclosed by Yahoo about the Yahoo accounts breach investigation procedure. However, they have been warning the account holders to change their password since the announcement of this breach last year. Yahoo accounts hacked were reportedly under low concerns of the users on security terms, but Yahoo would still take the blame for being so, let’s say modest with their approach to the user end security regulations.

Yahoo accounts have been depleting since the beginning of Facebook and Gmail; the added up fuse of account security is troubling Yahoo more and more. The company has been very vocal about the security issues of their user’s account since the 2013 breach and has even asked its users to definitely change password post the incident. Yahoo will not be providing more information into how the breach was identified; probably due to some security concerns of the website.

Yahoo was not really in the game of social media giants for a while now, and this might end bringing them more disappointment with their website than they could come up with now. Let’s hope Yahoo accounts will be back on track with some modern security foolproof procedures to help us feel safe in the world of internet.
